James Michael Becker, 83, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024 surrounded by his loving family that he was so proud of. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and love that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He treated everyone who walked through his doors like family. He truly never met a stranger.
Born June 7th, 1940 in Erie Pennsylvania, to the late James M. Sr. and Barbara A. (Condon) Becker; Jim grew up with his three siblings. Jim served on Girard Borough Council, in addition to owning Becker’s Music Center in Girard and Fairview. He was a regional sales manager for American General Insurance, receiving his LUTCF, while also receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration later in life. He was proud to be a former Eucharistic Minister.
Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. His marriage to his beloved Jo Jo of 60 years was a union blessed with love, understanding, and an endless stream of laughter. Together, they built a home filled with joy, where laughter echoed in every corner and jokes were always welcomed.
Among his greatest joys were his beloved grandchildren, whom he adored beyond measure. Jim took immense pride in watching them grow and flourish, always offering unwavering support and love. Whether it was cheering them on from the sidelines of a sports game or sharing words of wisdom over a Whiskey Ginger, he was their number one supporter and their rock through life’s ups and downs.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Joyce (Jeffers) Becker whom he married on January 11, 1964; their beloved dog Bear; sister, Karen Wildermuth (Bob); son, Jim (Linda) Becker; daughter, Jacquelyn (Ty) Sornberger; grandchildren, Brittany (Dave) Pasinski, Brennan (Rachel) Becker, Ty Sornberger, and Payton Sornberger - along with being “grandpa grape” to his great-grandchildren Carson, Mason, and Rilyn, with Emerson and Hayden on the way.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Becker.
We want to thank the UPMC nurses for their continuous support and love they had for our Jim.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Anna Shelter or Because You Care, causes close to his heart in honor of his beloved dog, Bear.
